Girls Build
What is Girls Build?
As part of their commitment to advocacy and community support, Habitat for Humanity has created Girls Build. This program is designed to help young girls learn how to build a solid foundation for better opportunities and a better life. Through a five-part curriculum, Girls Build is designed to educate about homeownership, how to become actively involved in their communities, how to empower girls to dream big, to make smarter life choices and to boost girls self-esteem by installing in them the knowledge and confidence they need to make successful decisions about their futures.
How does the Girls Build program work with the Girl Scouts?
You can choose to participate in the program at your own troop meeting. You can also choose to participate in a one-day event offered during the 2007-2008 Girl Scout year.
During the 2007-2008 Girl Scout year The Girls Build program for Junior Girl Scouts will include Module 1: Homes and Neighborhoods.
This module focuses on the basic human needs and how they are met in the context of our homes and neighborhoods. The goal is for the girls to understand how homes and neighborhoods function to meet basic needs.
During the 2007-2008 Girl Scout year The Girls Build Program for Cadette Girl Scouts will include Module 4: Home Buying Basics.
This module focuses on the buying and selling of homes and the financial discipline required by homeowners. It seeks to foster an awareness of homeownership as an important life goal.
What is included in the Girls Build program?
The Girls Build program includes a leader guide, an activity book, and handouts for each of the girls.
Is there a fee for the Girls Build Program?
