Trees for the 21st Century
What is Trees for the 21st Century?

The Future of Life, Inc. announced a new nationwide collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Greater New York and Girl Scouts of the USA: "Trees for the 21st Century TM."  The kick-off for the partnership coincided with the Girl Scouts 95th anniversary celebration.  The Future of Life, Inc. arranged for all councils of the Girl Scouts in the USA to plant 95 trees during their council wide events highlighting their anniversary.  This was the beginning of a much larger tree planting initiative-a nationwide community service project that promotes environmental awareness and civic responsibility. Girl Scouts will plant up to 30,000 trees nationwide, making a significant impact on the environment and in New York City.
Through participating in this curriculum girls will:

·       Appreciate the impact of tree planting on the earth's ecosystems and climate change.

·       Understand the role that trees play in improving the quality of water and habitat in streams.

·       Learn how to successfully plant a tree and nurture its growth.

You can choose to participate in the program at your own troop meeting by simply requesting a leader guide. You can also choose to participate in a one-day event offered during the 2007-2008 Girl Scout year.
